What is the point of our existence? To live and move and have our being in Him, Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, who was and is and is to come. All else falls away – every striving, disappointment, self-doubt, anxiety, fear, fruitless or fruitful effort, success or failure, even our conception of what we thought our lives should be. Everything blurs from view when we hear Him whisper to our spirits with His gentle and all encompassing voice that resonates in every cell:
I am pleased with you.
Though we may feel unworthy and silently think, “why?” When we read those words that cut straight to our hearts we are very aware of our sins and choices birthed out of vain conceit and selfish ambition all to gratify the flesh. In light of this ugliness, we realize what it means to have His blood cover us. He was the perfect sacrifice for sins, by the lashes He took we are healed, and we are in Him when we believe in our hearts and confess with our mouths that Jesus Christ is Lord.
That’s the point to life – hearing from our Creator’s heart, “I am pleased with you.” These 5 words cuts between joint and marrow and divides between soul and spirit, as we realize the only thing of significance in the days we call our lives is to live in a way that pleases Him. This statement defines what we spend time on, what we prioritize, and what we categorize as important.
Nothing else matters – not money, position, title, or land – only that all our efforts, words, and actions come from a place of divine intimacy and communing with the Almighty. Mankind’s expectations and judgments of whether our lives are important, successful, or meaningful are silenced and lose their hold on us when we know we please God. He is our very great reward.
Matthew 25:21
“His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'”
Romans 10:5-11
“For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, ‘The man who does those things shall live by them.’ But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down from above) or, ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? ‘The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart’ (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, ‘Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.'”
