Peace Among the Brethren

What if we were in unity?

In the United State of America, there are lots of Christian denominations and churches. Each has its own way of interpreting what’s important in our walk with God, one is all about memorizing scripture, another about communion, another about service to community, another about worshiping with lots of instruments, and another worships with no instruments, some meet on Saturday, some on Sunday, and others on Sunday and Wednesday. In all these, there is one commonality – Jesus Christ and His life, crucifixion (sacrifice for the world’s sins), and resurrection. We live because of Him, our eternal salvation is based on Him.

What would unity among the citizens look like if we thought of the party system as denominations, instead of divided parties. Let’s look at some simple truths:

  • One is about social services and taking care of those who are down-trodden and need help.
  • One is about taking out those who would threaten peace, so the people can live under freedom and democracy and can live without fear or oppression.
  • One is about freedom from tyranny, over-governance, and living free independent lives.

All of these perspectives have their strengths. What if we began to look at one another in America as Patriots (fellow brethren) working toward One nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all? The simple dividing line is the eternal truth of good vs. evil:

  • Those who would call evil good, let us not count as brethren.
  • Those who would destroy God’s beloved creation, that technology today shows is a God-breathed spark of life in the womb, let us not count as brethren.
  • Those who would applaud the death of those who spoke the truth and suffered assassination, let us not count as brethren.
  • Those who would want evil to prevail, let us not count as brethren.
  • Those who would twist the phenomenon and discount the global celebrations by oppressed people dancing in the streets now that their evil regime has been removed, let us not count as brethren.
  • Those who lie, twist the truth, create their own contradictory value system opposed to God’s truths as laid out in the Holy Bible, let us not count as brethren.

Instead, let us form ranks across the aisle with fellow brethren who are called to stand as one nation in the face of evil, not backing down from threats, those who hate and malign the truth, naysayers, or those demonic influences that would seek to twist reality and call good evil and evil good.

Let us invite those who have not been brethren, who have lived in rebellion/deception to come to the full knowledge of Christ and experience the inexpressible joy and awe of knowing Him who died for us and created all of us, and made us able to be one with Him.

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (Philippians 4:8)

I Peter 8:3-8

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,  and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.

This inheritance is kept in heaven for you,  who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.

These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith, of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire, may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,  for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
