Don’t Panic, Let Go

These two thoughts seem counterproductive… “Don’t Panic”  | “Let Go”

When we panic about certain areas of our lives the last thing we want to do is let Go and trust God. I want to share a video taken by a pilot who found himself in a sitaution from which he could not get control. He tried with all his might, contacted air traffic control, and cried out for help. In the midst of his panic, a calm voice (who knew the answer) said, “Release the stick.” The pilot followed the command given to him and regained control of his aircraft.

It is safe to watch until the end, even though the initial cries of raw panic are hard to hear. Our hearts go out to this pilot in his frightful moments, but we rejoice that he safely regained control. We can hear his voice calm and gratitude at the end of the video.

In our lives, we may find that we are panicking and crying out to God for help over a matter. We may be in a tailspin and cannot escape a futile situation, even though we might expend all of our mental and physical strength trying harder and harder to make things level out, all to no avail. In such times, the Lord could be trying to tell us to “release the stick” – just as the confident voice of wisdom told the pilot to do over the radio.

When we find ourselves in an anxiety stricken panic, unable to level out, let us release control and offer our everything to God, who is the author and perfecter of our faith. He orders our steps. His yoke is easy, His burden is light. He is our Shepherd, we will lack nothing.

When the Lord says, “let go of that thing,” we must obey.  The “stick” could be about a career decision, ministry opportunity, relationship, dream, and any other thing that makes us spin and panic. We can continue to wrestle with it with no peace and what seems like gall mixed with hellfire, but the result will not be fruitful. If we only obey Him, release control of what we tried to create/accomplish/escape and follow His quiet, confident leading, we will find that we quickly stop the rolling and become straight and level. From here we can walk on His path for us in quiet confidence and peace, for He makes us lie down by quiet waters, He restores our souls for His namesake.
