What is that stirring within? Is there something more the Lord Almighty has put in you to do, create, share, move into, or move away from? What I’ve learned over decades of following is that Jesus is faithful. When He calls, He provides. Even if we’ve made mistakes, He can redeem and use us to accomplish His will. When we can’t see where our steps will land when we follow in obedience, that’s okay, for the outcome is His – not ours to try to control. When He leads us to take a step of faith, we must keep our eyes on Him. When we take them off, we sink into despair and the worries of this life.
If we can’t see the next step and He bids us follow on, let us follow hard after Him, letting Him guide the steps.
There may be wordless groanings within from the Holy Spirit inviting us to do His bidding. It may be a restlessness inside that we can’t determine the cause of, but we are very aware of it. It is that deep calling unto deep, it the Lord calling. This invitation to follow Him on and do what He put in us to do is undeniable. It is a calling that is hard to ignore or miss when we are seeking Him with our whole hearts. Ours is simply to say, “Here I Am, Lord,” and follow Him.
The path before each of His beloveds will look different. To some it will be a clear, straight way. To others it may be lead into a wooded grove we can’t see past. Following on with Him can means entering into a new career, relationship, or even leaving one. For others it might be creating a product, a sound, a movement that He created you to bring forth at such a time as this. The only similarity is moving from a place of perceived comfort to the unknown.
Jesus, we seek Thee. You are faithful, You are good. You are the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Lead us on, Mighty Savior, we trust Thee.
Matthew 14:22-33
Immediately He made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”
And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
